1968 CamaroNo one would mistake sixteen year-old Kevin for a forty year-old, however with one older brother and one younger brother, he is the middle-aged son. Kevin, though, does not have the traits some psychologists associate with the so-called “middle child syndrome:” lacking the drive to see a job through, seeking only friends outside the family and being a rebel. A year ago, he saw a ‘68 Camaro sitting in a neighbor’s garage and stopped to check it out. It had only about 80,000 miles on it and all the paperwork to prove it, very rare in a car over forty years old. It was an original, unrestored car, with stock 327 CID engine and Powerglide auto trans. The interior was in great condition, the paint was in decent shape, and it even had the original vinyl top. The owner had gone through the engine, transmission and suspension, but left them all stock. Unfortunately, it was not for sale. But Kevin is a determined young man. He had worked hard with his brothers in their own yard maintenance business for several years and had saved enough money to buy a Camaro like his dad and brothers own, so he set about persuading the owner to sell it. After about a month, he succeeded in doing so, although he had to wait until he turned sixteen in order to drive it. Since then, the only things he has done to the car are detail it and replace after-market mag wheels with stock “rally” wheels. He likes the stock look, using his Camaro as his daily driver, and has no plans to change that. So this “middle child” worked hard, with his brothers, to get a Camaro, a traditional family favorite. Interestingly, although Kevin is not over forty years old, his car is. Does that make it middle-aged, too?

Although it has the “SS” and “350" badges as well as an SS hood that are correct for 1968, this is not an SS model. The hood was on it when Kevin bought it, so he added the badging.

1968 Camaro
This 327 CID with a two-barrel carb was rated at 210 HP. Everything is stock here with the exception of the air cleaner. This Camaro has P/S and P/B.

With the exception of an aftermarket radio, the interior is stock for ‘68. The optional clock is on the console.
