Here’s to you, Mrs. Robinson.
Although both Karen and hubby Bill drive this beaut of a ‘64 Chevy Impala SS, Karen is the one who has a special fondness for this particular model. Her second car was one of the same year and exterior color. Bill drives it on the long trips while Karen takes it on short jaunts. Short jaunts were probably the norm for this car. With only 93,000 original miles when they bought it from the second owner in 2003, it had averaged only about 2500 miles per year! Although since then Bill and Karen have done some restoring like repainting its original paint (in the same color), its 327 CID, 300 HP original engine had already been rebuilt and is running strong. Strong enough to make trouble-free trips with fellow Roamin Angels to Lake Havasu, AZ, in 2004 and Coeur d’Alene, ID, in 2006. They made it with the comfort of air conditioning (after all, Bill does own B & F auto air) and a CD player, hidden in the glove box so that only the original AM radio shows. Bill always carries a good supply of tools and spare parts, but so far has only used them to help fix fellow Roamin Angels’ cars. Mrs. Robinson’s Chevy just keeps on going |
