Family Ford F-100
Jerry Funk had no plans to buy a pick-up. It all started when his
daughter decided that she wanted to have this ‘57 Ford F-100 back
in 1998. It was in rough shape, with no interior and so much of it
in parts that Jerry described it as a “basket case.” Although he
feared that she might lose interest in it before it was finished,
a father has a hard time saying no to his daughter and he took on
the project. It was not stock, with a tired 429 CID engine and auto
trans, as well as a ‘68 T-Bird front suspension. Jerry got into the
job, getting it in drivable condition while it was a “work in progress.”
Except for re-upholstering the seat, which is from a ‘68 T-Bird,
Jerry did all the work himself. He replaced the motor with a Ford
460 CID with 400 HP, put in a C-6 auto trans and a fresh 9" rear
end, and then painted it white. It took two years to complete and
his daughter drove it for one before deciding that a Camaro was more
to her liking. So you might say Jerry inherited it from his daughter.
His wife Carol has yet to ride in it, but she has promised to do
so when he puts air conditioning in it. And he plans to. After all,
it’s hard for a husband to say no to his wife.
