Love At First Sight
When Roamin Angel Dave R. went to a Good Guys’ car show over ten years ago, he never thought he was going to fall in love. After all, he was happily married to Sheila, but when he saw those beautiful lines he was hooked. It was a 1930 Packard street rod. Even though it looked almost stock, a few things like its chrome wire wheels belied that. Dave searched all over for his own 1930 Packard and finally found his diamond-in-the-rough in New Jersey. He bought it sight unseen, knowing it was not running and definitely not restored. Although he was only the fourth owner, it looked like it had not been on the road since the first. With the help of Lanny Netz’s Lanmark Auto, this Model 726 sedan is now on the road with a 429 CID Ford engine mated to a C-6 auto transmission for dependability. Safety is provided by power brakes with front discs and power steering. Comfort comes from air conditioning and new upholstery. Sheila made her contribution, agonizing over paint and upholstery choices. But it was worth it. Now Dave and Sheila both love their red and black Packard.
