Muscle Cars & Me
by Miles
News > Scrapbook Index > Muscle Cars & Me

My name is Miles, I'm 20 years old and I'm a Roamin' Angel. I've always loved American Muscle Cars. My Mom & Dad took me to lots of hot rod shows as I was growing up. I bought my 1967 Pontiac Le Mans in San Jose and towed it home to Grass Valley. Rebuilding part of the classic was my senior project under the direction of Instructor Lynn Mengus' auto class at Nevada Union High School. My mom and I joined the Roamin' Angels about 5 years ago. I love being a Roamin' Angel because we have awesome car events; get togethers, drives, midget racing, garage tours, or drag race each other at Sacramento Speed way, etc. I volunteer for security at our fall car show and help with the Christmas toy drive. Other Roamin' Angels my age are Erik, Andrew, Billy, and Laura.

Most of the guys are older than me but Landon has given me great advice on my college major and some of the Roamin' Angels are hilariously funny like Ed, Dusty, Bill and Dave. Most of them know a lot about old cars and are happy to share this knowledge with younger people. They know where the best swap meets are and where the best deals are on cars for sell.

After high school, my dad and I dismantled the whole front end of the car. We disconnected the drive train and transmission. We trailered the car to Lanny's home. Lanny and his friend Pat are excellent Roamin' Angels mechanics as are many of the Angels. We replaced the worn out engine with a new Smedding 383Stroker, installed a new 400 transmission, MSD ignition distributor, a Demon 750 4 barrel Carburetor. Another Roamin' Angle, Rick installed 3" Hooker Headers, and Flow Master exhaust for that awesome sound. I replaced the stock hood with a black 4" cowl induction hood, (not shown). I replaced the rims with Aluminum American Racing rims and put in 2"+ lift springs in the rear. I still need paint and interior but I'm in college and I can only afford, (and my mom) so much at a time.

The Roamin' Angels have a lot of knowledge to share if you are serious about rebuilding your hot rod. The Roamin' Angels are looking for more young guys and gals to join us. We have a scholarship program for local high school students majoring in automotive. We also have a separate car show category for people under 21 with American cars up to 1972. The car can be a work in progress like mine and you can win money!! Contact the Roamin' Angles for details or visit our website. I love this club and the guys and gals in it! We have lots of fun.
