Baby Boomers remember well listening
for the familiar melody of the ice cream truck as it
rolled through the neighborhood on sunny afternoons,
begging for a dime or a quarter from parents and running
into the street to purchase a Sidewalk Sundae, 50-50
Bar or a Fudgesicle. Alas, gone are those days of curbside
delivery of frozen treats. But now Bob and Debbe bring
much better, hand-made Lazy Dog ice cream products to
local events like the Roamin Angels Car Show at the Nevada
County Fairgrounds in September with those oh-so-familiar
ice cream trucks from the ‘50's. Since most of
their business is doing events, Bob wanted a classy way
to transport and sell his product and, as a car nut,
what better way than a classic ice cream truck? He found
his ‘56 Chevy
ice cream truck on Ebay and transported it here from
Arkansas himself on a trailer. Cosmetically, it was great,
but he had to rebuild everything mechanical, from the
rear end to the front suspension. Then Bob found a ‘54
Chevy ice cream truck in New Jersey and had to have it.
This one needed cosmetics as well as mechanical help,
so he stripped it down, sandblasted even the frame and
painted it himself as well as did a mechanical restoration.
The trucks now keep the area in good humor with Lazy
Dog ice cream.
