At the January 1 board meeting, it was
decided to update the engine raffle trailer. The goal was to have
it ready for Autorama and that was just 5 weeks away! Barry and SOB
expressed some dissatisfaction with the current layout of the trailer
and engine set up so a remodel was called for.
Tom and I stripped the trailer and started fabricating the new
sign panels. With the help of BK Powder Coating and Best Trailers,
the frame was sand blasted and powder coated ‘Safety Orange’ with
black accents.
Tom picked up the engine from Weaver Auto on the
29th of January. Our goal was to have it in the trailer that day
but the flexplate was too big. We ended up exchanging it with Mark
Hall at Mels Transmission for the right size. The engine was in!
February
3 was a work party at my shop – Dennis, Ron, Tom
and I built the motor, installed the box and fuel tank (new locations),
detailed the running gear, new seals, etc. Thane made sliding
trays to keep the storage box organized.
We got most of the sign panels from Grass Valley Sign (Ed Townsend & Co.)
on Monday the 6th. The rest of the signs were installed just prior
to leaving for Autorama. A little too close but we did it! Ron and his crew sold 900 tickets at Autorama! Lee (Lee’s Metalworks) is now redoing the cooling system
in stainless tube. Tom and I will wire and finish up the exhaust
system before going to Good Guys in late March. If you’ve
got some time, please see Ron about hauling the trailer to
an event. You’ll have a lot of fun working
with other club members and the raffle sales benefit the scholarship
program.
