It was an early morning gathering at the IHop on Saturday morning. 20 cars headed down Hwy 49 towards I-80 and along the way they picked up 6 more hot rods, everyone ready for a cruise to the beautiful Korbel Winery in Guerneville. A quick stop at the Pitt School Road fuel and coffee depot and on to the Russian River and a great day with the best weather away from the constant heatwave that we've all experienced lately.
Waiting to greet the parade were event planners Terry and Kathy E. The Korbel security folks assisted in parking the cars in front of the entrance to the winery and up by the old Korbel family home where the actual festival took place.
Most took a tour of the Winery while we were waiting for the really hot rock and roll band to start playing which was the signal that the festival had officially started. Around 12:30 the hungry Angels got feed a bar-b-que lunch that included apple sausage links, chicken, pasta, rice, fruit and a selection of cheeses and desserts. Meanwhile the champagne flowed and the music got almost everyone into a dancing mood.
By 3PM everyone was getting anxious to drive the 12 miles from Korbel's to the Resort in Sonoma County in Windsor where Margie and Rick M. had arranged for our night's stay. This timeshare resort was beautiful and the large rooms were great. Everyone had time to kick back and relax before heading out for dinner.
Johnny Garlic's was the site of our Saturday night feast. And what a meal they put on. All had a choice from 8 entrees that included Peppered Tri-Tip; Cedar Plank Salmon; Grilled Chicken Marsala; and Cajun Chicken Fettuccine. The service was outstanding and the food was served hot and everyone got their meal at the same time. The manager came in just to make sure that everything was OK and got a hardy round of applause from the, now full, group of happy Angels.
Terry and Kathy thanked Margie and Rick for helping with both planning the event and leading one of the pods; Bill and Karin R. for leading their pod plus most of pod 1 so that they could drive straight through to the winery; and Tom and Diane T. for leading their pod safely. For a change, there were no significant problems with any of the cars except for Dave and Shawn's started to loose a wheel bearing.
Sunday everyone was on their own and the troops scattered to the far winds. Some drove straight home; some went wine tasting; some went to Sonoma; etc. etc. What the Angels did find was The Omelette Express in old town Windsor. Wave after wave of Roamin Angels came, ate a great breakfast and then took off for another day in the one thing that we all love the most, driving our hot rods.
All in all it was a great cruise - a great day - and a wonderful evening of enjoying food, wine and being part of the best Car Club in America – the Roamin Angels.
