Well, I spent my last column giving Ray Yedding some well-deserved praise for his work as emcee on Friday mornings because he was going to retire from that duty. But the members wouldnÕt let him. Claude presented him with a petition that he continue, with well over 100 signatures. Ray is again our emcee. Welcome back, Ray.
You will read a lot about the car show in the rest of this newsletter, so I will not repeat what you can read elsewhere. I will just say this: while maybe a little down from last year in some numbers, it was a definite success. Those that brought cars loved it, those that attended loved it and even the vendors loved it. I chatted with some of the Boys Under the Hood and they said it is the best car show they have ever been to. Period. Next year they plan on pushing it as the main all-club event. And they have 70 members. When I was buying a drink from a vendor, he told me that he does a lot of events at the fairgrounds and ours is his favorite because of the feeling at the car show. Others have many other stories of what was said about the show, but those two came unsolicited. Enough with the past, on to the future.
We are getting the nominating committee together. These have to be non-board members. You will be called and asked if you would be willing to run for the board. I encourage everyone who is interested to do so. We want the members to have a choice. If you do run and are elected, I do want you to know that it is a 'working board.' If you want to just go to meetings and vote, then this is not for you. Every board member has a job and is responsible to see that it is done. You will be asked to report on your duties every meeting. The job you will do is determined by what is available, with senior board members having priority. Okay, I'm not trying to frighten anyone off, but I don't want any misconceptions. We do have a lot of people who are willing to work in this club and I hope that they will all seriously consider running. The board is not made up of any clique or 'in crowd,' but a diverse (Ouch! That sounds far too PC.) group who meet and hash out the daily business of the club. It is open to all and not some exclusive elite. All who are willing to take on the responsibility and work. If this fits you, run, most definitely run.
My last bit this month is the 2009 survey. This is not a vote as such, but a way for the board to know what the club wishes. This gives the 'silent majority' a chance to make their feelings known in a non-threatening manner. For that reason, we are looking for questions from the members for the survey. Although I cannot promise it this year, so far we have included every question submitted by anyone. Most have come from board members (who really want to know what the members want), but there have been some from others. And they were on the survey. Now if you ask if we can draw and quarter someone or ban the guy next to you at breakfast because his deodorant failed, it won't be there. Use a little common sense, but get your question to me by November 1st (the same day your picture is due for the pictorial directory) and we will see about getting it in.
Wow! Another way-too-serious message. Well, did you hear the one about the priest, the rabbi and the Baptist minister who went into a bar? You have? Then I'll just say . . .
'Nuff said, I'm outta here.

Old Business
• Property committee- no report
• Toy drive – We will be back at the corner of Sutton and Brunswick this year.
• New member barbeque at Dave G's on Oct. 10 – This is for new members and guardian angels only. If you would like to be a guardian angel give Edie H. a call.
• Pictorial directory – if you would like your photo to appear in the membership roster for 2010, please email Diane B. and let her know. If you don't want your photos in, don't email her.
• Autorama – We need a volunteer to organize and pick the cars to be on display at Autorama. We do this because we sell a lot of engine raffle tickets.
• Club Radios – Mick C. bought 2 radios and a double charger on EBay, very inexpensively. The had them adjusted to our frequency, and also had 2 small hand-held cb-type units adjusted to the same frequency. So he now has 4 radios that all communicate with each other. He bought some hands-free microphones for sale $6 ea. Contact him if you're interested. We will have Steve, from Banner Mt. radio here at the November meeting to talk about the radio issues we are having. It was also suggested that we purchase our own frequency.
• Donation Committee – This committee is to recommend donations for the car show proceeds. We look first to those who helped us at the car show. Sylvia C., Karin R., volunteered. Ron C. is also looking for recommendations from the car show chair persons.
New Business
¥ Election process – George M. indicated we're going to start one month earlier this year. Candidates need to get out, and be seen- go to breakfasts, the general meetings and pizza nights. There will also be a piece in the newsletter, with a photo, so people can 'see' the candidates. Ron C., Ron N., and Edie H.'s position will be up for re-election.
• Nominating committee/ chair: The election committee will consist of George M., Bob L., and Karin R.. Karen S. will serve as board observer. A chair for this committee will be determined at a later date.
• Survey 2009 – Ron C. brought the results of the past 2 years surveys. He is willing to meet with anyone who would like to recalculate the totals. The Survey will be in the December newsletter, along with the ballot for board members. If you have a question you would like to have on the survey, contact Ron C. no later than Nov. 1.
• Car show 2010 – we have a need for more committee chairs in addition to two people to be Car Show heads for next year.
• Associate Membership – Larry E. Larry E. feels it is going to be difficult getting major sponsors for next yearÕs car show. Would like to have associate membership available for those who cannot meet the membership criteria. After much discussion, Ron C. indicated this is not a board decision, we must bring it to the membership, so this question will be on the survey.
• Car show thank yous – If you would like to thank anyone for their help with our car show, contact Ron C. He wants them by the middle of October, so they can be honored in the full-page ad we normally get.
• Service Awards – In the same vein, if you'd like to nominated someone for a service award, get their names to Ron C. as soon as possible. There are nine service awards given each year – presented at the Christmas party, and from that group, the Member of the Year is selected. The award is given at the annual meeting.
• Donor list (Item removed by Ron C.)
• Pumpkin patch – Steve D. asked the board for a donation to the Pumpkin Patch. It will be used to purchase art supplies for schools that have lost their art budgets. The board approved $500 for him. We appreciate all that Steve has done for the club...renting the units at the mini-storage for nominal fees or free.
• Court case – Ron C. went to court once again last Friday. The attorney is trying to get in into a drug rehab program. He will let us know when we need to attend the sentencing.
• Mike H., Dan G., and Larry E. were thanked by the members for refurbishing the Fallen Angels sign for the car show.
• Dick T. asked if it would be possible for member addresses and email addresses to be put on the roster. We will have a renewal form in the December newsletter for all members. If you wish to have your address and/or email appear in the roster, please indicate that on the form.
There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
