President Ron's Message
Well, we all know we had a car show in September and so much is
written in this newsletter that I am not even going to mention it.
Yeah, right. If you believe that, I've got some Enron stock you can
buy. It was truly awesome: more cars and many more through the gate
than ever before. And this when many other car shows are down on
both. Putting enjoyment before profit works. The cards, letters and
emails show that participants feel the same way, with all of them
promising to be back next year. That alone shows we are doing something
right. Not only that, it looks like record-breaking profit as well.
We did it all with a volunteer workforce, most capably led by Tom
T. and Larry E. Well, Larry and Tom, your previous shows were dang
good, but this third time topped them. You and the whole crew who
put this last show together nailed it. Thanks to you and all those
in the club who pitched in to make is such a success. It rocked!
I am sure almost everyone knows of the accident
after the show. So far, I am glad to say, everyone looks like they
will recover. For that, we can be thankful. Although we still must
not overwhelm them with our support in the form of calls and visits,
we do need to keep them in our prayers, send cards and be ready to
do anything we can do to help. That's what this club is about. In
your newsletter, you will find the official 2007 Roamin Angels Survey.
It is short but, as Spencer Tracy once said of Katherine Hepburn,
"What's there is cherce." The reason it is so short is that we used
basically only those questions suggested by members and not out of
my fertile imagination. That is especially true of the controversial
ones. So don't shoot the messenger. But do read the survey and reply.
Yes, reply! Because if you do not and enough others respond with
the opposite of your view, then they could be the majority. The board
wants to go the way the majority wishes. It's like voting in any
election: if you don't vote, don't complain. If you haven't voted,
or in this case answered the questionnaire, you haven't even done
the minimum effort. So put up or shut up. That was diplomatic, huh?
Speaking of putting up, how about putting yourself
up as a candidate for the board? Then you really have a say. Yes,
you will have to work, but there is no free lunch. I do not want
to scare anyone off, but I also do not want to give a false impression.
We do want more people to run for the board. We want fresh ideas
and fresh faces. Am I getting too fresh here? The idea is that the
board is open to anyone who is willing to dig in and get the job
done. And get elected by the club members, of course. You should
receive a call soon asking you if you want to run for the board.
If you do not want to run, check with your spouse. Remember spouses
are club members as well and eligible to run for the board too, so
don't answer for your mate unless you are absolutely sure, and then
some. We are an equal opportunity club. There you have it for the
admonitions of the month: fill out your survey and run for the board.
Got it?
'Nuff said, I'm outta here.
Board Meeting Highlights
September 24, 2007 • Salvation Army, Alta Street, Grass Valley
The
meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by president, Ron C. All board
members except Dave G.. were present. 19 Members/spouses were in
attendance. Sheila A. gave a brief TreasurerÕs report. Motion to
accept the report as given was made, seconded and passed.
Edie H. reviewed the events and activities for October.
Ron N. and Bob M. delivered the engine to this yearÕs winner. He
had purchased 4 tickets at Autorama. He indicated there were 2254
tickets sold through the trailer this year, the remainder were put
into car show goodie bags. He said this upcoming year he will concentrate
on more local events.
Ralph B. gave a brief update on current legislation.
If you're not on the email list to receive updates as they happen,
contact Diane B. She'll add you and keep you up to date on bills
that affect our hobby.
Larry E. has formed a committee that is interested
in further revision of the bylaws. He also indicated that he had
looked at 'Roamin Angels' license plate frames, but there are too
many sizes to accommodate everyone. He is investigating toppers instead.
Ted C. has found a source for aluminum plaques- quality is very good,
and pricing is very competitive. Contact him if you're interested
in purchasing one.
Old Business–
1) The Genysis was delivered to Nevada Union High School. The new
instructor, Joey Silva was grateful, and he indicated that he would
do his best to get the students to fill out the paperwork for the
scholarship.
2) The annual board survey is complete. Look for it in this month's
newsletter, and complete it. You can turn it in to any board member,
or mail it. This is the board's report card, and they want to hear
from everyone.
3) Bud H. will head the election committee this year. Expect ONE
phone call from a member of his committee, asking you to run for
the board. So, if you are interested, please tell your spouse.
4) The 2007 car show as a great success!! If there were problems,
they were pretty transparent to the participants and most club members
too. There were 800 +/- cars including the ones in the car corral.
There were 4,696 through the gate, about 1200 more than last year.
The Pinstriping event was extremely popular-and they made about $1200
for their chosen charity, Big Brother -Big Sisters.
5) Planning of the 2008 car show is already in motion. Hats off to
Thane A. and Duke K. for volunteering to head the show. Dates are
Sept. 5./6./.7. So mark your calendars. Think about what committee
you can serve on. Meetings will be set up and announced soon.
New Business-
1) The NSRA has returned our check. They no longer offer club memberships.
So if you're interested in being a part of their organization,
you must join individually.
2) Please remember that the Roamin Angel roster is for club member
use only. Many of our members have unlisted phone numbers. Do not
give out member phone numbers, or any other information, without
contacting that member first.
3) Diane B. is currently (re)setting up email on our website.
4) Edie H. is looking for help with the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas
signups at Salvation Army. This will be only a one week commitment
in both November and December. (Let's remember the Salvation Army
DOES let us use THEIR facility for our club house meeting each month
- at no charge). If you'd like to volunteer for this important duty,
contact Edie H.
5) Ron C. announced we will take the engine to Autorama in February.
(Sold 900 tickets there last year). It is an important kick-off for
the scholarship fund. We need a volunteer to head the Autorama committee.
There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was adjourned
at 8 p.m.
