2012 Cruisin' Summary by Mr. Cruise
The cruising for next year has been planned…. we're on our way.
Your gonna love the Beauty Day at "Los Banos Spa" with your wives and or girlfriends. We'll be getting our pedicures, cucumber exfoliations and seaweed facials on February 29th leap Day. Later in the year it's on to Sacramento's 10th anniversary of Latvian poetry reading, an afternoon of Bach recitals in May and most exciting of all, a day (or maybe 2) at the UC Davis cricket matches.
Well, when you leave event planning up to less than 10% of the membership, you get what you pay for. Fortunately, the rest of us have your back and we have the typical lot of good adventures planned.
Aside from the normal car shows, typical cruises and popular repeats from last year here's the new adventures we're looking at.
Barrett Jackson Scottsdale Auction - January
As a safe alternative to being there…we'll hold an afternoon of watching it live on the tube replete with Faux bidding, winning and explaining to your wife. We can do this at a public place with TV or if you have a garage and can host the event… you're on. Mr. Cruise will see to it that you and the guests are fed.
Be our hero and give me a call if that's you. Saturday afternoon January 21st (FYI..NFL plays on Sunday the 22nd only).
Sonoma Winery Cruise - February
That man with the dimpled knees & kilt…Kevin F.….leads us on an insiders tour of Sonoma's wineries. BBQ lunch provided. He's got connections. An overnight cruise departing Saturday February 11th . Let Kevin know of your interest and to get details.
Karaoke with Claude - February
Claude (Hessel) asked me to tell you that Norm will %$## the ever loving #@%$# out of you if you don't show up. I think that says it all actually. Join Claude and sing your Karaoke favorites. Sunday late afternoon February 5th . Cruise to "Uncle Sonnys", 174 & Brunswick. Call Claude to join in...or else.
Race Day at Thunder Hill - March
As soon as the track's schedule is set we'll firm up a date and take a couple of cars over to the raceway and…race. Plan on Mid to late March.
We'll join up with "Hooked on Racing" or the Shelby Club race days. You can race your car, take a couple of hot laps from the right seat … yelling "Yahoo" going through the reverse camber cork screw on the front, or simply watch.
We plan on inviting scouts & parents from troop 855 as our guests. Think about sharing your passion. Spectator entry is free. We'll know more about racing fees soon.
Roamin Angels 50th Anniversary Party
Oh, just a little party to celebrate our 50 years of being Roamin Angels. Sock Hop, BBQ and Birthday Cake extravaganza. Free to club members. We want everyone and everyone's car to attend. Kathy Edwards is leading the planning committee. Details as we set the date and develop plans.
Bridgeport Cruise - May
"The path of Francesca Johnson's future seems destined when an unexpected fork in the road causes her to question everything she had come to expect from life." What? OK, Norm D. is our Clint Eastwood as he does our version of "The Bridges of Madison County"….You didn't know till now how exciting Bridgeport could be. Call Norm to Sign up. May 12th.
Big Springs Brunch Cruise - June
Ken M. and Sylvia C. lead us to Big Springs for the Mother of all brunches. All Ken could think about was food while recovering from his heart attack last year. He's back. He's 100%. He's on a cheese blintz mission. Saturday, June 23rd Call Ken or Sylvia to sign up.
Nevada County Winery Tour - October
Join Landon S. on his quest for vineyard property. "Schadel Winery" or "Chateau Schadel". Has a certain ring to it doesn't it? That's "Grape" not "Gra-pe"! October 27th. Call Landon and join the fun.
Call or email me if you have questions, want to set up an adventure or really do like cricket.

Well, I guess it's official; the Summer of 2011 is over.
Nancy J., Glenda A. and their committee are working on the final plans for this year's Roamin Angels Christmas Party. The flyers have been printed as have the tickets. A great evening of food, wine, music, dancing, the Choir of Angels and of course, Santa Claus will make his usual special appearance and all for the member price of just $35. It's the one time each year that the girls get to dress up in their best and get to scrub the grease from under the boys' fingernails.
Meanwhile, Mike and Jean H. are busy shifting the plans for the 2011 Toy Drive into overdrive. What a program he has set up this year. The Angels will have cars downtown with the Salvation Army Bell Ringers on November 25th. This will be followed by a Mini Car Show at Riebes in Grass Valley on December 2nd which will include some tri-tip from the famous Jay Cooper grill. This is all leading up to the main event on December 3rd at the PG&E Maintenance Yard near the IHOP in Grass Valley.
Meanwhile down at the Salvation Army building, Pat G.l has put together a small army of Roamin Angels to help with the sign-up formalities for both the Toy Drive and the food distribution program. As I'm writing this note, your Board members are evaluating the results from the 2011 Car Show to determine how many families the Club will be able to adopt this year.
The Summer of 2011 may be fading into the sunset but the Roamin Angels nevertheless had a great October. The highlight of the month was the annual Mystery Tour. This year the cruise to "who knows where" was organized by the a great group of people. What a great trip!! Speaking from experience I know how much time and effort it takes to plan, organize and execute one of these cruises. Great cruise; great location; great food and a great time was had by everyone - thanks to a great crew.
On Saturday the 22nd the Club celebrated an important part of our history with the annual Geezers Picnic at Condon Park. What a picture – all the senior members of the Club gathered in one place at one time. Most of them are the members that took the Club from a relatively small group of gearheads to its current prominent position within our hobby. Thanks to each one of them for the years and years of dedicated service to the club that we all enjoy and a big thank you to all the cooks and kitchen helpers; George P. for the loan of his sound system and to Don and Gloria C. and Landon S. for putting this great event together.
Enough Said – Cruise Safe – Have a Great November
SEE YA ON THE FLIP SIDE,
Terry

Old Business:
1. Toy Drive: Thanksgiving Friday, we want to pair up a car with a kettle. Scouts will "man the kettle" our cars will just be there for "fluff". Park next the the kettle, and promote the toy drive on Dec. 3. You can stay by the car. Dec. 2 – Mini Car show at Riebes. 6-8 cars only. KNCO will do remote. Food will be served.
2. SA Signups – Today was the first day. over 30 were signed up. Pat G. asked how many families will be adopted by the Roamin Angels.
3. Event Planning- Dismal turnout. Only 14 attended meeting. Prizes were handed out for last year's tour leaders.
4. Christmas Party- Contact Nancy J. if you want to sign up to be held at Alta Sierra Country Club, December 17, $35 pp for members/ $50 pp for non-members. Only 200 tickets will be sold. The Roamin Angel Choir will sing. Looking for a volunteer "Santa". Contact Nancy J. if you're willing to be the Big Guy in Red.
6. Election Committee – George M. volunteered to chair the committee this year. All members will be contacted and asked to run for the board....come on...it's REALLY fun....
7. Autorama- We have no club interest at this time. If individuals are interested in going, that's fine.
8. Scholarship Committee – Committee has been formed and we will review what sort of fund raising can be ready for this year. The toolbox only generated $1,125 this year, so that isn't the answer, and we did receive $1,000 from Mel's Drive in. So, we get some funds back into the scholarship.
Other Old Business:
1. Salvation Army – The Board still hasn't decided how many families we are going to be able to adopt this year nor how much money we're going to be able to spend.
New Business
1. Sheila would like to have some accounting assistance. Nikki G. has offered her assistance to the club.
2. Next year is the 50-year anniversary of the Roamin Angels. We want to have a big "class reunion" type party. A committee is being formed to investigate options. Contact Kathy E. if you'd like to help.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
