All American SpeedwayOnce again, Riebes sponsored a car show/barbeque/NASCAR race for the Roamin Angels. On April 16th, twenty-five cars went to the All American Raceway in Roseville. We parked our cars on the grass near the entrance to the track and popped out our chairs. Jay rustled up a batch of his famous tri-tip with all the fixin's. Excellent, as always. And the Angels dug in with gusto. Kudos, Jay. After that, many Angels went inside to watch the prelims. The Legends of the Pacific were there, with their screaming runts. Watching these scaled-down racers fight their way around the track in is a fun and entertaining. Steve Olsen and I won the ride-arounds that Jay awarded. To say that taking a couple of laps in a NASCAR race car was a thrill would be an understatement. Getting in was interesting. I was glad I didn't weigh any more than I do. That window isn't all that big. Then came the run. I have driven my cars much faster, but riding shotgun around a third-mile track as the driver does a bit of a fishtail as he powers out of the turn was a kick. I offered to drive him a round for a couple of more laps after that, but he declined. I guess he had too many others waiting in line. As I climbed out gracefully (since few saw it, I can claim that), I told the young woman from BMR that it was an E-ticket ride. She looked a bit puzzled. Probably though it had something to do with the Internet. Before the main race, nineteen Roamin Angels formed up for two parade laps to the cheering of the crowd. The announcer gave a plug or two for the Angels and our car show. How much did it cost us? The ONLY charge was for a second ticket, at half price for those who wanted one. And Riebes is who everyone should thank. Bart Riebe and Jay Cooper are truly awesome Friends of the Angels.
