RON, THE PRESIDENT
April came without the showers this year, which was great for the downtown Grass Valley car show. There were a record number of cars and Angels aplenty. It was cool to see how many were there early to help park cars . . . or shoot the breeze with each other. We were supposed to be there at 6:30 am, but Mill St. was 2/3rds full when I got there at 6:20. Roamin Angel time is 30 minutes early, unless there is food and/or drink involved. Then it is 60 minutes early. Show up on time and you're late. I saw that there was a nice picture on the front page of The Union, above the fold. How did you do that, John?
Well, May is here now and the weather and the events are both heating up. No one can make them all, but if you don't find something to your liking, you are very hard to please. And if that is the case, come up with your own idea and get it going. When it comes to events, youÕre the boss.
The latest news is that Ralph B has resigned from the board, due to increasing business demands as he rises in the Grocery Outlet organization. It is good news for Ralph, but we are sad to lose him on the board and in the product sales. Although we are not filling the board position, Janene P. is stepping up to the plate on product sales. She has been heavily involved with it already, both in doing the work and knowing the ropes. Ralph will be helping with the transition, but Janene will need help hauling product, setting up the tent and doing sales. So if you are wondering where you can help in the car show, this is one area that is going to be short a hard-working man. Thanks, Ralph, for all your work for the club and input on the board. It is through his liaisoning with ACCC that we are able to know about and combat the ever-rising bills that threaten our hobby. The club will feel the loss of Ralph and his efforts for this club.
My last pitch is for the Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital car show on May 27th. For several years now we have been going there and putting on a car show for the residents, although it has been rumored that some Angels are home-shopping. It lasts from 9:30 am until noon and lunch.
Yes, there is a free lunch. Well, considering gas prices, perhaps not free. Still, it is neat to have the residents looking at the cars and saying, 'I had one like that fifty years ago.' Of course the Deuce coupe they had was not quite like the one in the show, but it doesn't matter to them. Not much effort on your part, but it means a lot to the residents. Invest the little bit of time and you will receive a large return.
'Nuff said, I'm outta here.

Board Member Reports
Ron N. announced the two recipients for this year's scholarships. They are Sophie Thibodeau and Jordan Meyer. Both students of Nevada Union High School, they plan to attend UTI in the fall. He also stated we sold 171 engine raffle tickets at the Grass Valley Downtown Car Show on Saturday. Although this was about 20 less than last year, it was still a good beginning for us. Speaking of the Downtown Car show, everyone present agreed that it was a great car show. There were lots of new cars to look at, and some interesting ones for sure.
Ron C. gave Ralph's legislative report. He indicated that SP 1549 was due in Senate Appropriations today. This bill was out to destroy our hobby before it was watered down, and we really need to keep on top of legislation that creeps into existing bills.
Sheila A. gave a treasurer's report. The report was approved without changes (Edie H./ Larry E.).
Larry E. reported that the car show is doing fine. The fairgrounds now have a contract with Nevada County Farm Supply for grass maintenance. Alta Sierra Country club provided a sweeper to pick up the pine needles, and Ron has moved in, plugged, seeded, and fertilized the lawns. By car show time, it should be looking better. The only other new change is that Norm D. has taken over Trophies. He and his crew have a job ahead of them, if you can help out, contact Norm directly. Also, the Friday night dinner will go on again, at least this year.
Terry E. announced the month of May's upcoming events. Please see the new calendar in this edition of the newsletter. There's lots to do, so have a great time!!
Old Business
1. Penn Valley Rodeo - May 17 - Same day as the Garage Tour, but they're still interested in having some Roamin Angels show up. Contact Janene P. if you're interested.
2. Sierra Services for the Blind golf tournament - Ron C. told them we weren't interested in going to the golf tournament.
New Business
1. Brevity Request - As you may have noticed, board members have been asked to keep their reports to 3 minutes or less per member requests.
2. Ralph B.- Ron C. read a letter from Ralph indicating he is resigning from the Board, and as Product Sales Manager due to job commitment changes. He recommended Janene P. be placed in the position of Product Sales Manager. In a short, special meeting prior to this general meeting the board decided not to replace Ralph's position on the board, but rather, form a committee who's responsible to keep up with legislation and reporting it to the club. Mike H., Vic R, and Janene P. volunteered to do this. They will keep Diane B. up to date with changes.
3. Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital car show Ð Tuesday, May 27 is the date that members present picked to have the annual mini-car show for the residents of Golden Empire convalescent Hospital. Show up at 9:30 - get a free lunch. In addition, last year they donated $150 to our Scholarship Fund for our participation.
4. 'Green' car show- Per the Grass Valley Union - We are GREEN!!!
Adjournment- There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
