2011 ROAMIN ANGELS DONATIONS
Each year the Board must decide how much from the net proceeds of the prior year’s (2010) Car Show the Club can afford to donate to worthy 501C3 charitable organizations in Western Nevada County. The Board takes this job very seriously. These hard earned Car Show profits are the major source of funding for the Club each year and the Board is extremely diligent in the evaluation of how this money is spent. Members also need to be aware, however, there are State laws that regulate raffle activities conducted by non-profit organizations like our Club. Therefore, the Board must follow these rules and regulations which have an impact on the decision making process. Additionally, the Club has established and is recognized by the community as being generous with both our members volunteer time and to a lesser extent our Car Show money.

With all of these factors in mind, about three years ago it was suggested that a Donation Committee be authorized by the Board each year to review the many requests for donations and make recommendations to the Board. The Board agreed with that recommendation and, accordingly, the 2010 Donation Committee was organized by Vice President, Terry Edwards. This committee met on January 26, 2011 at Alta Sierra Pizza to perform the assigned task.

A committee report was given to the Board at the February meeting by then VP Edwards. The committees’ recommendations were discussed in detail and after careful review the Board approved the following donations.

Grass Valley Boy Scout Troop $4,500
Bear River High School Band $1,500
Grass Valley Firefighters Association $1,500,
These donations were based on the recommendation from the Car Show Co-Chairs for the services provided by these organizations to the Club at the 2010 Car Show

Association of California Car Clubs (ACCC) $3,000
This donation was based on this organization’s invaluable services to the collector car hobby to protect our rights to drive and enjoy these cars.

Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital – Cancer Center Foundation $500
This donation was based on the critical medical services that the SNMHCC has provided and continues to provide to the Club membership.

Animal Save of Western Nevada County $400
This donation was based on the critical and humane services that this organization provides to those Western Nevada County animals that are in the most need for help.

TOTAL DONATIONS $11,400

The Board expresses its thanks to the members of the Donation Committee for their time and valuable input.

Well, tradition was slightly bent this last Monday at the 1st meeting of the new Board. Normally officers are elected following the annual Roamin Angels Pizza Feast, however due to the bad weather, the first agenda item was to handle this important piece of Club business.

It will be my honor to serve as the President of the Roamin Angels Car Club for 2011. I fully realize just how big these shoes will be to fill. Ray Yedding and Ron Cherry have guided our Club from a relatively small group of small-town gear heads to its current prominent status, not only within Northern California, but more importantly within Western Nevada County. The Club owes a huge debt of gratitude to Ron for his countless hours of dedicated service and to Kelly for her behind the scenes support.

I consider myself very lucky to have the BEST TEAM of fellow Board members to work with this year. Ron Cherry and I switched positions as he will continue his service to the Club as Vice President while Sheila Atherstone will continue as Treasurer as will Karen Schadel as Secretary. Edie Heller will continue as Director of Membership as will Scholarship Director Mike Chatfield. Our new Board member Mike Hauser will be taking over as the Events Director while Dave Brown will assume the duties of Sergeant at Arms. I want to welcome Mike H. to the Board and thank him in advance for offering his time and talents.

The Events Committee are currently working on completing the 2011 Events Calendar, the Membership Committee is putting the finishing touches on their proposals and the Scholarship Committee is gearing up to search out this year's candidates. Ron will be monitoring the ACCC, keeping the Roamin Angels Corner going, will be the Board liaison to the Car Show Committee and will handle all Club publicity issues. Dave has been assigned the task of keeping the Corporate By- Laws up to date. Speaking of the Car Show, thanks to Thane and Duke for stepping up and returning to their co-chairmanship duties heading up this critical committee. So, all that's left is for me to do is figure out what my new job is.
