In 2001, Chris M. and Mike Z. proposed that maybe it was time that the Roamin Angels had their own facility. After a short period of time, the idea was shelved.
8 years later, in January 2009, the idea was brought up again at the General Meeting. This time the Board suggested the formation of an ad hoc committee to test the feasibility of the club having their own facility and reporting back to the Board its findings.
This committee is gathering the facts. We want to be sure that whatever is decided doesn't put the club in financial jeopardy. No building is being designed or purchased right now. In fact, realistically, nothing would actually happen for 3-5 years AFTER the club's vote on the matter. What the club has authorized at this time is a small amount of money to handle the expenses of this fact-finding mission such as legal services.
Terry E., the Board's representative to oversee the committee, presented questions to the committee that ran the gamet from 'Will this affect our 501-C non-profit status' to "How many bathrooms will there be?' Some of these questions and others that we had were taken to our initial meeting with a corporate and tax attorney, Stephen Haas. It was an informative 50 minute meeting.
At our last ad hoc meeting, we determined that the next step was to establish an informative list of pros and cons to determine if this effort should go on. Unfortunately, that meeting was only last Wednesday so there hasn't been time to prepare that document.
To all club members, whatever your opinion on this subject, please understand that the Board will not vote on this issue by itself. No action will be taken on this subject until the members vote on it.
If you have questions about this, please contact any of the Ad Hoc Committee members: Tom T., Larry E., Ted C., Dennis G., Dusty S., Bill B. and Den R.
