June 2007
From Ron, Roamin Angels' President
May Madness was upon us last month. There were so many options on
the events calendar that you would have to be insane to try to do
them all. A little schizoid too, since some were at the same times.
Having so many, though, made it so there should have been something
for everyone. (If not, then someone is just too hard to please.)
Let me just mention a few. We started with a cruise down for “patio
dining” at the Cattle Baron. I wanted to take the Batrod (the
72 Vette), but the sky looked rather ominous, so I opted for the
SUV. Sitting in the K-Mart parking lot, waiting for everyone to get
there, we got hit by an April shower that got lost on the calendar.
It was a deluge. Not very long, but very intense. T-tops are notorious
for leaking and mine is no exception, so it would have been more
than a little damp inside if I had taken the Vette. Still, we had
fun caravanning down and the rain did stop en route. We used the
inside patio (regular dining room) at the Baron, and had a good time
with a passel of Angels.
Then there was the “Triple Play Saturday.” We started
with one event and, as requests came in, two more were added. We
started with the car show at Yuba College to support their automotive
program. Then came a request from the Nevada County Narrow Gauge
Museum for some cars for their 4th Anniversary Party. Then Kragan
asked us to come to a grand opening in Lincoln. I made two of the
events, starting at the railroad and working my way to Kragan to
be there for lunch. Lets suffice it to say that we will try never
to commit to three events in one day.
For the third year running, we did a car show for the residents
of the Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital. This has been an event
that takes little effort but contributes much. We had a decent
turnout and were greatly appreciated by the residents. Again, there
is more on that in this newsletter, so I will be brief. Let’s
just say that it was worth doing. I was not on the RV trip to Manchester
Beach, etc. Kelly has always said, “Why would I want to go
on vacation in something where I still have to cook, clean and
make beds?” Since driving flatbed car carriers, I prefer
transportation that corners better and accelerates more quickly
than a motorhome, camper or fifth-wheel. Don’t get upset,
all you RV’ers, but I find my fun with the letter “V” in
Vette rather than RV. Just personal preference.
I’m almost out of room, so I will only mention that Angels
were active at the shows in Oroville, Wyotech in Sacramento, “Route
65” in Lincoln and Thunderbolts in Rio Linda. We even provided
the judges at “Route 65,” for which we received $300
for our scholarship program. Like I said, there were a lot of activities.
And now, our thought for the month…All of these activities
took planning and organizing. The board did some of the work, but
much work was done by you, the members. If you have an idea or
see an opportunity, feel free to present it to the board. But be
prepared to be asked to head it up. After all, this is your club
and part of possession is responsibility. Get involved.
‘Nuff said, I’m outta here.

General Meeting Minutes
May 21, 2007 • Salvation Army, Alta Street, Grass Valley
Board Members Present: Ralph B., Ron C., Larry E., Dave G., Edie
H. Ron N. Members Excused: Sheila A., Karen S., Tom T.
Meeting was called to order at 7 p.m by President Ron C. Minutes
from the last meeting were unavailable and no treasurer’s report
given due to absence of secretary and treasurer.
Ron N. reported 49 engine raffle tickets were sold at Wyotech, although
the show was small. The scholarships this year will be awarded either
at a breakfast or a general meeting. He feels we need to promote
the program more.
Larry spoke about the grass problems at the fairgrounds and what
he is doing about them. He wants input on any by-law changes for
a committee meeting in July.
Ralph reported on attending the ACCC convention and what he learned
of politics in this state. AB1616 requiring yearly smog could be
a problem for the hobby. The black plate law looks to pass.
Edie reported on the RV trip and the Oroville show. She gave a run
down on upcoming events.
Ron C. reported on the Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital car show.
12 cars and a chopper were there and the hospital gave lunch and
$150 to the scholarship.
Old business:
Dinner Meetings- Ron C. reminded folks that clipboards for events
will have to be duplicated so that they can be passed around at
the new evening meetings at Round Table.
We are trying to get help on purchasing a Genisys engine analyzer
for NU in honor of Len Menges’ years of service to the ROP
program there. He is retiring this year.
We are still promoting getting funds to cover the rent for the Gold
Country Community Center. There has been some success.
New business:
The club is joining the NSRA. Members receive a small discount in
dues and it gives a certain status to the club, as well as supports
a great organization.
Terry E. spoke about a reception to be given for Wayne Davis in
honor of having an exhibit of his cars at the National Auto Museum
in Reno. It will be held on Aug. 10 at the museum. More information
will follow.
The meeting was adjourned at about 8:30.
