Williams Car Show
Saturday, June 6, 2009 • Story & photos by Ruth Hottel
It started out cloudy and somewhat cool as three Roamin Angel's cars caravanned from the parking lot at K Mart at 7:15 a.m. Manny and Winnie V. in their Burgundy 48 Lincoln, Karin & Bill R. in their white 64 Chevrolet, and Bill and Ruth H. with the Skylight blue 64 Ford Galaxie XL...destination...the Williams car show.
We checked in under the Williams arch, $25 for registration, including $5 extra for roped off parking.
The goodie bag was great! Inventory List: 1 bag of Calrose white rice, 1 pop open Sun Shield, 1 paper bag with several wooden golf tees, 2 antique postcards, 1 bottle of water, 1 small battery power fan and shampoo samples, 1 small bag mini Oreos, 2 car air fresheners, 1 deck of playing cards CHP, 1 small screwdriver, 1 key chain light CHP, 1 small tie pin with the Williams arch, 1 keychain with small light, 4 ball point pens, one red, really nice, 1 pencil, and 1 coupon for free garlic bread or dessert with meal.
We were anxious to see what the new Granzella's restaurant looked like after it had burned and then been rebuilt. It looks much the same as the old Granzella's, except for inside, the aisles are wider, new wooden floors. Most of the taxidermy was saved and still there, (remember the huge polar bears?) Although rearranged somewhat. It still has the olive tasting bar. New restrooms changed locations, much better, though. We enjoyed a pleasant breakfast meal in the restaurant.
Across the street the new Granzella's gift shop and corporate offices were located. The gals enjoyed looking and shopping in the gift shop, lots of merchandise to ogle over, while the guys talked cars.
The sun came out, and we listened to the music DJ, songs from the sixties, 'La, La, La Lollipop', etc. Awards were given out. A young boy named Carlos won the bicycle raffle. He sure was happy to get that shiny new bike!
It was a gorgeous day; we enjoyed the time spent with our Roamin Angel friends. Smaller shows (about 40 or 50 cars total) can be fun.
