The Roamin Angels scholarship recipients for 2007 – Ryan Harris and Andrew Danos.

What does Edie H. have in common with Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra conductor Erich Kunzl, certain mayors that include Chicago’s Mayor Daley, commentator Paul Harvey, Gen. Colin Powell and Ronald Reagan? The same thing that she has in common with several prestigious police chiefs, bank presidents, CEO’s of major corporations, educators, doctors, and religious leaders. They are all part of a select group that have been honored with the Salvation Army’s “Others Award.” Story•>

After the Hacienda Patio Dining, the group went to the Red Robin, Cappuccino Cruisers car show where Edie won.Congrats Edie!

"You've got a screw loose." The Hard Luck Award goes to Rita and Ron. Their tale of woe happened on the Mystery Tour. The problem was the car was 'missing' and wouldn't go over 50mph. After several guys checked it out, Dave B. found the problem and tightened the scrw.

On June 10, Gio and Bev attended their old car club, "Diablo Vintage's" Reunion in Concord.  They had belonged to the club for almost 20 years! We all had a great time, over 90 people responded.  It was organized by Bobby "Bucket" Gonsalves, a real character!  He collected, mostly from Pat Weindel, some of the trophies that Pat had received.  They took them apart  made "new" trophies to be handed out. The trophies were given out to club members, just for fun, for silly reasons.....Gio was given his for "Reddest Car", and the trophy, as you can see is RED.  Everyone laughed because it is almost as big as Gio. They had to take it apart to get it in the 34, so they could bring it home to Grass Valley!!

Size Matters??? George P. and Dennis “Gio” compare trophies. George won for the "Best Modified Pick-up" at the Pioneer Park car show and Gio won for the "Reddest Car" at the Diablo Vintage Street Rod Reunion. Maybe next time, George, you should "go for the green?"

Quincy Car Show Winners 2007

July 2007
From Ron, Roamin Angels' President

ºWith the summer season we get hot, sunny days and so many car events that it makes your head spin. The last weekend of June, we had the Dunsmuir caboose trip, the Pioneer Park car show, the Pinole car show, as well as the celebration of Roamin Angel Jim Dent’s life. And all were well attended. If you look at your calendar (yes, you will have to take the time to read it), you will find so many things to do that you could make “Roamin Angel-ing” a full time job! So pick as many from column A and column B as you want. This menu has no extra charge for additional choices. And if you don’t see the item you want, talk to Edie, our events chair, about getting it going. But you may need a shoehorn to get it in.

I do want to thank all those who came to support Lydia at the celebration of Jim’s life. The Mustang club made sure the trophies were awarded in time at the Pioneer Park car show so that we could leave in time. Many of the group who went to Dunsmuir left early enough to be there as well. Others cut short whatever they had planned for the day to make it. I did not get a count, but we had between twenty and thirty cars there. And it made me proud to be a part of this club. It’s not just a bunch of people who get together to party and cruise, but a tight-knit group who cares about and supports each other. The world could learn a lesson about life from the way this club acts.

If your head hasn’t swollen too much to get through the door after that, I would like to make one last plea for items for a survey. Last year we gave one, with some questions suggested by the general membership. We planned to do one this year and I have asked for constructive questions. So far, I have had no questions, constructive or not. The board can try to guess what you would like on a survey or you can give us an idea what you would like. Or we can just not do one. So if you would like to be heard, let the board know. ASAP. STAT. PDQ. Whatever.

Looking to July, much is planned. I will not go into detail, but will mention that we are in demand in both Grass Valley and Nevada City. You can sign up for the Grass Valley Farmers’ Market or the Nevada City Hot Summer Nights. Either one will give you two free drinks (adult beverages) per classic car or rod, but the limit is five cars at Grass Valley. We will be selling engine raffle tickets at these events as well. Ron N. is hoping to do a sell out of the raffle tickets this year, so be there, have a drink or two and sell tickets. It is a chance to enjoy the summer at local, no-pressure events.

Lastly, Terry E. still has a few slots for “Angels in the Outfield” at the Rivercats game. This will be a great time and get some real recognition for the club in the Big City, i.e., Sacramento. We get special parking, cruise the outfield and have seating as a group. See Terry for more info.
‘Nuff said, I’m outta here.

General Meeting Minutes
June 25, 2007 • Salvation Army, Alta Street, Grass Valley
Called to order at 7 p.m. All board members except Karen S. and Ralph B. were present. Tom T. made motion to accept minutes, seconded by Edie H. Landon S. made motion to accept treasurer’s report (see attached), and seconded by Edie H.

Board Reports:
Edie H. indicated that Day at the Lake has been postponed until August, and poker run to Downieville was cancelled. Dates on Cannibal Cruise are July 6-7-8 (need to be changed) No other changes to this month’s events.

Ron N. introduced the two scholarship recipients for this year – Ryan Harris and Andrew Danos. $900 was presented to the scholarship fund from Saturday memorial service for Jim D., and the Sunday Pinole Car Show. Ron N. explained the scholarship procedure to the recipients and invited both of them to breakfast. Ryan Harris was presented with the first $2,000 of his $4,000 (2-year) scholarship. Ryan attended Bear River High School for 4 years, with a 3.0 grade point average, and plans to attend Sierra College in the fall. Andrew Danlos also graduated with a 3.341 gpa, and a member of the Honor Society. He plans to attend Wyotech. He also received the first year’s amount of $2,000. He also distributed a list of the 2007 ticket sales so far this year.

Ron C. gave Ralph B.’s legislative report. Ralph had gotten incorrect information regarding the new fines. They are lower than were originally reported. Issues coming up – You are encouraged to write legislators. Smog law, SB 42, and SB100-Auto year vs. engine year.

Larry E. reported that he had met with Ed Scofield re: grass issue at the fairgrounds. We are not selling engine tickets at the fair, and we are getting a new PA system at the carshow.

Larry E. also indicated he is forming a group interested in revising the bylaws. If you’re interested in participating, call him.

Tom T. urged everyone to sign up for the car show. About 850 cars are expected, and we plan to have 1,500 dinners on Friday night. If you’re part of the committees for next year, come in now & “train”.

Dave G. - the recent trip to Dunsmuir was great. Side trip to Burney Falls was a hoot!!!

Ron C. regarding the Genisys machine for retiring instructor: He has an ad with KVMR requesting community help. So far we have received $100 toward the purchase. As a club, we are going to go for the basic machine, and try to get the community to go for the add-ons.

George M. reported there were 48 people there for the first pizza meeting. Edie H. and Terry E. spoke there about upcoming events, and Edie also talked about her reward she received from Salvation Army for her volunteer work for the food and toy drives.Remember, the Pizza nights are for those members who do not wish to attend the Friday morning breakfasts, and are held the first and third Wednesdays of each month.

Roamin Angel Corner in the Union—Needs more photos…Submit to president, Ron C.

New Business:
Jim D. memorial – About 20 cars were there. Dick Wolfe and Charlie Engles from Law and Order (Universal Studios) attended and spoke. Although they did not know Jim personally, Jim’s wife, Lydia Mayberry, has worked for Dick for nearly 20 years. A donation for the Cancer Fund was also held. We will donate $149 to them.

Ron C. said we are a draw to the community, but we need to have incentives to participate in activities. We will try to offer all activities to all members, however, participation will be up to each member’s discretion. Discussion will continue on this matter.

Ron C. needs input for new questionaire. It is your club, what do you want to see on it!

Gary R. would like to thank all the Roamin Angels for all their cards and thoughts. He is recovering from two surgeries.

There being no other business to attend, the meeting was called to order at 8:08 p.m.
