RON, THE PRESIDENT
It's the Christmas season and we're all rushing around to have a
merry Christmas. But take time to smell the trees (Christmas trees,
of course) and wassail. If you don't know what wassail is, then you
are not in the Choir of Angels that will be doing its normal bit
at the Christmas party. It is a spiced cider with orange and lemon
juice for a kick. It used to be seriously alcoholic and people would
go from house to house, singing for a cup or two of wassail. After
a while, the singers would have a collection of empty cups hooked
on their belts and be rather inebriated, which is the origin of the
term 'in his cups.' Well, all of that was true except the last sentence.
But it sounded good.
Our toy drive also sounded good. We seemed to have the word out
with flyers, radio and newspaper, but they did not come. There were
some who did, and we are grateful for them, but not as many as the
last few years. Why is up for conjecture. Location, the economy,
too many other toy drives or whatever other reason that might come
to mind, the net result was we did not collect as many toys. The
Roamin Angels, however, cannot be faulted. Over fifty cars showed
and their owners stood around in the cold. And it was cold, let me
tell you. Even Santa had popsicle toes. So thanks to all that came
to support the toy drive. We did collect toys and donations, so it
was worth the effort. The cub scouts, the Porsche club and a local
groups of GM muscle cars all came by to donate. I just wish more
people had appreciated what we were doing for the community.
On a different note, if you were at the last general meeting, you
heard that we are going to be charging non-members more for attending
Roamin Angel events. The reason is not to single out any one or two
people who have been attending events, but to make your membership
something of value. Often the club subsidizes certain events, making
them cost less to the members than the actual cost. This is a benefit
of membership. We are not excluding non-member guests at these events,
but do not feel they should have the same benefits of paying members.
You pay your dues and rightly should expect preferential treatment
at club events. Now you will have that. We are even investigating
ways of making sections of the website only open to members. We have
nothing against the general public, but they are not Roamin Angels
and should not have the same privileges. All anyone has to do is
have a '72 or older American car, pay their dues and put in ten hours
of service during the year. We are not exclusive, but we are a club.
The survey is over. December 1st is past. Does that mean you can
no longer express your opinion? Of course not. First, there is a
ballot in this newsletter. It has three candidates and a by-laws
issue. Vote. Yes, you have three candidates for three positions,
but you should vote anyway, at least so we know how you feel. But
more than that, let the board know if you do not like what is being
done. Perhaps the board might change your mind or perhaps you might
change the board's mind. Give it a shot. Communication is key to
any organization.
'Nuff said, I'm outta here.

Old Business
1. Survey - Ron C. reported there are many more surveys coming in
than we received last year. Deadline is Friday, November 30. Mail
them in, give them to a board member, drop them in the box at the
Breakfast Club, or bring them to Friday morning breakfast, but
this Friday is the deadline. We want to hear from everyone!!!
2. Election report- There are currently 3 vacancies on the board
for 2008, and only 3 candidates are running. Ballots will be in this
newsletter. Again, mail in your ballot, or drop them in the box at
the Breakfast Club.
3. Toy Drive-Salvation Army sign-ups - Edie H. reported she still
has a few openings for signups and distribution. She said that the
helpers at Thanksgiving loaded 166 boxes in 20 minutes. Be sure to
bring your cars for the distribution. We will have event coverage
by KNCO, KVMR, and the Union. The Toy Drive (Sat., Dec. 1) will be
at the PGE offices off McKnight Way, and we will have restroom facilities
(next door to the parking lot) and coffee compliments of Roamin Angel
member, Mel H.
4. Autorama - Dave G. reported that he is in the process of getting
cars for Autorama. Dates are Feb. 8-9-10.
5. Annual Meeting - Tentative reservations for the Annual Meeting
have been made for Feb. 12. The event is free to all Roamin Angel
members, there will be a charge for any non-member who wishes to
attend of $10 per person. So, make sure your DUES are paid.
6. License plate toppers - Larry E. is looking at some additional
options for license plate toppers, as so many cars will not be able
to use these. We are concerned that only offering toppers, (or the
bottom-toppers) will limit sales.
7. Empire Mine gas pump restoration - Edie H. asked that this item
be tabled until after Christmas.
8. Dues Ð ARE DUE !!.$40 renewalÉ must be received no later than
December 31. You can mail them to the Roamin Angel PO Box (1616-Grass
Valley 95945), or give them to any board member. Dues become delinquent
on Jan 1, and an additional $25 will be charged to renew your membership.
Your name will NOT appear on the roster if the dues are not paid
by December 31. If you'd like to have your newsletter mailed to you,
the charge will be $18 for 2008.
In addition, the board unanimously voted that effective Jan 1. 2008,
non-members who wish to attend a Roamin Angel sponsored-(fee paid)-
event will be charged $10 per person over the amount the Roamin Angel
member must pay to attend. These events will include the Annual Meeting
(Feb. 12), The Geezer's Picnic (after the car show), the Christmas
Dinner/Dance in December 2008, and any other function that Roamin
Angel members must pay to attend.
New Business

3. Donation Awarding - The recipients of donation awards from the
2007 car show are being contacted now and ask to attend breakfast
to receive their awards next Friday, December 7.
