I was enjoying the AC and staying cool the other weekend and began testing my brain. Could I remember all the cars I’ve owned? Could I remember the order in which they were bought? The years? Colors? Not just the Classics but what nearly 60 years of driving history presented. Now the caveat is in my corporate life I was provided a new company vehicle every other year. While I can remember most of those they were pretty blah bombs mostly….wait…station wagons so I’m not including those 25 years of vehicles. So testing you. Before you read the list, find a cool place and make your list. It was an interesting exercise.

I was working with Jay last week and he asked what I knew about “The Great Car Race”? Well…. I knew they came through the area about two …maybe three years ago. A few hundred classics on their way East from the Bay Area. There’s usually about 150 or so pre 1974 classics that race from point “A” to “B” with a $50K first place pot and another $100K for the remaining participants. The race is not about speed but timing and efficiency.

Guess where they will be again in 2019? Yep, Grass Valley….for lunch. The race next year is from Riverside to Tacoma departing So. Cal June 22nd and finishing in the N.W. June 30th.

This is a great opportunity for the Club if we can volunteer in some fashion. Directing traffic? Helping with lunch? Repairs? It’s a great opportunity to publicize the 20th “Cruisin the Pines” which will also happen in 2019. What’s the other opportunity? To Race of course! Google “The Great Race 2019” for details. Haggerty is the sponsor. You could use $50K right? ( https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2018/06/13/west-coast-route-announced-for-2019-great-race/ )

Meanwhile, the 2018 “Cruisin the Pines” is but weeks away now. You all are invited to the combination last car show meeting and Club General Meeting Tuesday August 14th. Jean is taking care of the food and libation which is on us (the Car Show budget). Nothing to bring except your appetite. Condon Park, BBQ area, 4:30pm ish to 7:30pm ish. The Board will start you off with a General meeting to catch you up on happenings then we’ll roll into the last Car Show meeting before the September show. You MUST RSVP to Jean so we have the enough food and drink.

As there is every year, a few loose ends need to come together for the show. What seems to be ahead of the curve is the 4x4 interest. See the photos as typical interesting entries. Search & Rescue tells me they will be in attendance along with the County’s MRAP monster and you’ll be surprised by a couple other entries.

FYI registration in general is ahead of last year. Nice job everyone.

I’m waiting on some special musical guests to help with the opening ceremonies Saturday about 9am. Either way though The American Legion’s Gary Barnes and the Scouts will again help with the Flag Raising and a few words of honor. There are still some opportunities to help with the show. Sell some raffle tickets? Work the ticket booth? Security? Engine Raffle? The August meeting will also give you an opportunity to talk with a Director and pick your 'cup of tea'.

Alright….got your list done? Check out mine and let’s compare sometime in person.
