The Townsmen poker run was on the same weekend as the McClellan Air Show. Unfortunately, only a few Roamin Angels showed up. Our car included Ron O., my husband, Donald and me. It was a good show. But for me, a GREAT show!
It started at Jaspers and ended at the Auburn Fair Grounds. As usual there were five stops to pick your cards. When we arrived at the first stop, I reached into the bag and pulled a queen of spades. The second was the king of spades. The third stop I pulled a jack of spades. At this point, we were starting to get excited! (Now mind you, Ron was also drawing a poker hand but he's got nothing.) At the fourth stop – you got it –I drew the ace of spades. Wow!! Now onto the fifth stop at the fairgrounds – into the bag–the eight of diamonds. Pop! There went my winning bubble! They then gave us the option of paying one dollar and drawing a sixth card, which I did. What are the odds? What are the chances? Well, you guessed it. I drew the ten of spades. A royal flush! Wow!
When I went to register my draws (they filled out the sheets at each stop – I had nothing to do with that) they told me that they thought I'd won. Two others came up prior to me with four aces and four kings thinking that they'd won (men) but were told otherwise.
At the end of the show, when the awards were being presented, it came time for the poker hand winner to come up and get the winning envelope. My name was called. So with my Roamin Angels club jacket tied around my waist – it doesn't hurt to advertise – I went up on stage and got my envelope, which contained three one hundred dollar bills. Just enough money to buy gas for the trip home to Grass Valley!
