August
2007
From Ron, Roamin Angels' President
The nights haven’t been too bad, but it looks like we’re in for Hot
August Days. Of course anything over 80° is too hot to me. You can guess
how much I love Reno in August. I would be there to help sell tickets for the
engine, but I have another commitment. Last year I sold tickets to a guy from
Hawaii. I told him I would accompany the engine over if he paid the fare. Actually
I didn’t say that, but it makes a good story. Why not help sell tickets
at Hot August Nights and see if you get a good story too?
The reason I won’t be in Reno is that I will be in SoCal,
land of O.C., O.J. and OTT. For those who are not into computer-eze,
OTT is Over The Top. The other two, you should know. Anyway, it’s
my 40th high school class reunion for Claremont High. When I’ve
told other Roamin Angels this, I get, “Your 40th?” I
guess the Geezers think I’m a contemporary.
Speaking of the Geezers, wasn’t that a killer picnic? If you
weren’t at Condon (noticed I used an “n” on the
end) Park, you missed a great time. B-B-Q Master Chef Chuck was walking
around with his knife set hung low on the hip for quick-draw. There
was so much tri-tip and wine that left-overs were sold at discount
price at the end. This was the first year for Geezer bibs, but they
were well received. And they really seemed to help. No offense, Geezers.
Now let’s step back to earlier in the month. I will only chat
about those events in which I participated. When I look at the calendar,
there were many I missed. If anyone made them all, step forward.
I will give you a hearty handshake. I went to all three Hot Summer
Nights in Nevada City. We took the engine and did sell some tickets,
although we really didn’t push them very hard. After all, it
looks like we will be a sell-out this year, and possibly before our
own show. How great is that?
The second one was a bit . . . aggravating since sixteen signed
up and it looked like we were only going to have two cars. This in
a parking lot that was totally reserved for us. Thanks to phone calls
and a couple of double-carrings, we did have nine. The Stonehouse
was a little disappointed, but the next week made up for it. I bitc-
. . . uh, complained at breakfast and we had twenty-one cars the
next week. Seven were signed up. Kudos, gang. The Stonehouse owners
were so gassed (pardon the pun) that they invited us for next year.
This brings me to my last point: if you sign up, be there or let
the person in charge know you will not be. We make it a policy not
to commit the club to anything the club doesn’t support. That
being the case, when we do commit to something, people expect us
to be there. Sometimes they put announcements in the newspaper and
on the radio based upon that. I know there are too many events to
make them all, but if you sign up try to be there or call someone
if you can’t. It’s the Roamin Angel way to do things.
‘Nuff said, I’m outta here.

to certain areas, please contact Ron C. as soon as possible.

don’t bring anything oily, dirty, or broken and try to sell
it. In addition, all those who wish to sell items will be required
to sell raffle tickets. (Cheaper than paying the price of the stall!!)

C. or Ron N. for more information.
Meals-On-Wheels is looking for substitute drivers to deliver their
meals to seniors. We cannot do this as a club any longer, but if
any member is interested in participating, contact them directly.

of your car, along with the Roamin Angel logo put onto coffee mugs.
She will have a sign up sheet at breakfast and at pizza night for
interested parties. Cost will be about $10 each.
There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was adjourned
at 8:12 p.m.
